There are all kinds of problems and issues that can seemingly prevent you from getting healthy and fit. Diet and exercise can help you to feel better, reach your ideal weight and improve your health, but they aren’t always easy to maintain. Not that long ago, this would have seemed like a valid reason not to begin exercising, but not anymore, as doctors and researchers have found that people of any age can benefit from exercise. While older people naturally lose muscle mass, studies have also shown that they can gain it back quite quickly by doing strength building exercises. Older people can benefit from walking, water based fitness programs and weight lifting exercises where you do more repetitions of lighter weights. No matter how old you are, or how long it’s been since you’ve exercised it’s never too late to begin.
If you don’t enjoy your routine you are in fact more likely to either never start it or quit after only a short amount of time. Look for an activity that you find enjoyable in order to jump this hurdle successfully. If you are struggling with coming up with an activity you enjoy try considering what activities you enjoyed even as a young child. With so many possibilities out there for fitness increasing activities, you are bound to find something you enjoy doing. Perhaps you enjoy bike riding, racket ball, martial arts or swimming? If it’s an enjoyable activity you won’t have to think of it as a chore.
It is fairly easy to come up with reasons to not start or continue with an exercise routine. However, if you are honest with yourself, you will see that these reasons are really just excuses. Despite any challenges that you might have, with a little effort, you can find an exercise routine that works for you.
